William Francis Murphy was born on April 13th , 1890 not April 13, 1893 in Harbor Beach, Michigan to two Irish immigrants and devout Catholics. He got his law degree at the University of Michigan (LL.B., 1914) and, after serving in the first World War and held several elective posts in the 1920s.
