Point 4 – Caput Draconic, the Dragon’s Head

The North Node or Dragon’s Head is the next point in Marc Jones’ fourteen points for delineating a chart.   The Zoroastrian and astrological year commence sometime around 21st of March, the vernal equinox,¹  when the Sun enters the the first sign of the zodiac, Aries.  This is shown by point A on the picture below. Point B is the hibernal (winter) solstice.  This great circle around the Earth is everywhere equidistant from the poles and lies in an imaginary plane perpendicular to the Earth’s axis  the ecliptic.

The Sun travels along this track marking off time, signs and seasons for the next 365 days, leap years inclusive so that every four minutes of time equals 1 degree in space so every fifteen degrees is an hour and thirty degrees or a whole sign two hours in time.  It though is not the only sphere that had a short enough orbit to effect us directly; the Moon’s orbit, show in purple, has its own axis, though far shorter at 28 days and is called the celestial equator.   Besides meeting at the two equinoxes, the two also meet at the equinoxes

No where on the chart is a picture of the Moon’s nodes, and that is because they are imaginary point plots, and not planets,  that are used by astronomers to calculate distances and eclipses and are always opposite of each other.  Sometimes they are called “mansions of the Moon” also.

The ascending or North Node is important because it represents the power to do things outwardly in life.   When the days are getting longer the sun crosses the equator, and  spring.  So too, when the pathway of the Moon crosses the course of the Sun it rises and creates the north node, and you get an emotional spring. the Dragon’s Head represents within you.

This insight because of the north node is  the key to your soul because it only through the “rising of the soul” that are YOURSELF and are using the vital force within you. If you are uncompromising and embrace it, then the rest of the chart’s makeup can “go to town,”  for the Dragon’s Head shows where your real depth lies  — it is your true spirit.

For TR, his North Node is in the sign of poetic appreciation — Pisces. Pisces sees people universally. Sometimes that can rather sloppy, but it can also be delicate and charming. T.R. loved people. Some of this was simulated, but the man was honest, and untiring in his personal activities with others.  His north node in the second house of personal resources  shows it was an inexhaustible fount that sprung forth.

The symbolical degree for Pisces 6 reads: “The dignity of West Point is in its parade of the officers-in-the-making, under a setting sun.” This dramatizes the exaltation of life’s values by responding to the traditional accouterments of success, but liberty also dwells there in the call of the heart to joyous duty.   This was the power that Roosevelt had for doing everything with respect and experiencing life as though “on parade.”

Thus he is the one man who did more than any other in conserving the natural resources of America by creating the National Forestry Service, the Federal Bird Reserve, the National Park System, then managed by the Department of the Interior and the American Antiquities Act, that protects archaeological sites, landmarks, & structures, by designating them as National Monuments (our header picture is of the Anasazi sites that are protected by this act.)

1.  This is no longer astronomically correct because of precession of the equinoxes, and now astronomically at least, spring starts sometimes in Pisces, but about two thousand years ago when astrology\astronomy was founded, the start of Spring was at the vernal equinox and so it has been retained.  Cyril Fagan thought this quite wrong and proposed an alternate method of horoscopy called Sidereal Astrology, that is used primarily in Vedic charts.
