Revisiting Edgar Cayce’s Ascendant: A Libra Perspective

An article in the AFA¹ monthly journal submits a new chart for Edgar Cayce. The author moves Cayce’s ascendant from Marc Edmund Jones’s of 25 Leo 33 to something like 20; not even the decan is changed. I have seen that trick before, so let’s ignore it.

My pet peeve aside, I don’t agree with Cayce being a Leo despite Marc Edmund Jones’s decision.² Instead, I have rectified the great psychic to the last degree of Libra, putting his preponderance in Pisces in the fifth house and his Sun opposite his part of fortune. It works on many levels: several of his children have inherited his psychic abilities and the whole industry that has been spawned off his original talents. That all fits in its creative offspring of the fifth house.

What I also like about 29 Libra is it creates a T-Square with the eighth house and Taurus — rather à propos for someone who could see physical apparitions. This also makes Capricorn intercepted in his third, where both Jupiter and Mars lay.. That’s important because Mars is exalted in Capricorn and gives the person heightened organizational powers, and Mars being intercepted highlights how his abilities were not very apparent until many years later; and during which he was called a huckster. After Mars, through progressions, became direct, his career blossomed.

Another nice touch is Lilith in the fourth house, highlighting his father’s harsh response to his youthful visions of seeing his grandfather’s spirit. Cayce wrote that this was disturbing to him in his youth, and he was very hurt that instead of embracing his gift, his father scolded him.

This layout, creates a mutual reception between Saturn and Jupiter where Jupiter is conjunct his Arabian Part of Ancestors, obviously this was his communication with his grandfather — and Jupiter being the good luck & money planet, shows how that episode brought him fame and fortune.

The outlier Pluto when it was discovered, showed up in Cayce’s seventh house of opportunities for others. This was just about when Cayce had his first client in 1928 and established his business.

All of this gives Cayce a chart of a bucket with a Uranian handle, which is really stunning as it is also his least aspected planet. His most aspected plant is naturally enough, Neptune at 03 Taurus 38, “the rainbow’s pot of gold is revealed flashing and sparking colors.” Jones writes about Wheeler’s vision that it is ” love and appreciation as one pursues their higher socially conscious manifestations.

Cayce’s Line of Vitality is absent. His line of efficiency is sextile while his line of Culture (Neptune in aspect to Uranus) is absent. His line of Motivation is also absent but is in mutual reception, which provides extra strength and benefit to his determination.
