On April 12, 1955, at Kokubunji, Tokyo, a tiny rocket called Pencil was launched horizontally. Even before and during WWII, research into rockets is said to have attained a considerable level, but most scientists destroyed their materials for fear that they would be accused of war crimes as after World War II, Japan was forbidden to develop military material. This shows up on the chart with its many mutual receptions.
Here is the chart for the Pencil launch. The project was led by Dr. Itokawa aka Dr. Rocket, the founder of Japan’s Space Program.
